WHOOP 5.0 and WHOOP MG: what changes for your band
WHOOP sells two current devices, and the question comes up before almost every order: does a band bought for one fit the other? The short answer is yes, with one exception that matters if you use the health features.
The connector is the same
WHOOP 5.0 and WHOOP MG share the same band attachment. A band made for one goes on the other without an adapter, without tools, and without any difference in fit. When we say a band fits WHOOP 5.0 and MG, that is not marketing shorthand for “mostly” — it is the same physical connection.
WHOOP 4.0 is a different story. It uses a different clasp, and nothing we make fits it. If you are still on a 4.0, none of this applies to you yet.
The one exception: ECG and Heart Screener
WHOOP MG adds ECG and Heart Screener. Both work by reading an electrical signal across your body, which means the band itself has to conduct — it is part of the circuit, not just a strap holding the sensor in place.
Woven bands are made of elastic knit, and knit does not conduct. So on an MG, a woven band leaves ECG and Heart Screener unavailable until you swap back to a conductive band. Everything else reads exactly as it always did: heart rate, strain, sleep, recovery, temperature, blood oxygen.
This is not specific to us. It is true of every non-conductive band, whoever makes it. We would rather you read it here than discover it on a Tuesday morning.
What that means in practice
If you have a 5.0, there is nothing to think about. Any of our bands, any day.
If you have an MG and you take an ECG occasionally, keep the conductive band WHOOP supplied and swap it on when you need it. It takes about four seconds. Most people we hear from wear a woven band day to day and keep the original in a drawer for the handful of times they use the feature.
If you take an ECG daily, a woven band is the wrong purchase. We would rather tell you that now.
One more thing
The device is sold separately. We make bands and charms, nothing else. QUIETUDE is an independent accessory brand, not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by WHOOP, Inc.
